The Personal Analytics of My Life

Stephen Wolfram is the creator of Wolfram|Alpha, and the founder and CEO of Wolfram Research.
This is his blog post about his own (quantitative) exploration of his e-mail collection with Mathematica.
(Blog post provides more personal feeling when talking about a personal life in my opinion.)

Cloud storage
Pointed from National Digital Information Infrastructure & Preservation Program.
Cloud storage: a pricing and feature guide for consumersBy Casey Johnston
http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/news/2012/04/cloud-storage-a-pricing-and-feature-guide-for-consumers.ars
Cloud storage is certainly a direction that people (IT people at least) are heading. But so many questions need to be answered in that cloudy area. Social norms, laws, and everyday practice need to go along with IT development.
My colleague, Tanya, dropped this cartoon when she saw this in the New Yorker during her Thanksgiving trip to home. Cartoon Published November 21, 2011

Microsoft Builds a Browser for Your Past and MUSE from Stanford Univ.
Again, thanks to the laser eyes of my advisor, Pat Galloway,
Microsoft Builds a Browser for Your Past
http://www.technologyreview.com/computing/39917/?p1=A1
I am still digesting the potential impact of this kind of technology on our reflexive use of everyday digital footprints and personal digital archiving. But it is indeed interesting.
MUSE, Stanford University,
http://mobisocial.stanford.edu/muse/
Muse is an open source e-mail archiving tool developed in the Stanford University. I recently had a chance to meet Sudheendra Hangal in the Stanford University, a creator of the Muse -- an outcome of well thought through research in academia.

if I die: facebook app
Jeanine Finn, a good colleague of mine, sent this link to me: http://ifidie.net/
It is about time that we will see more of these things, a lot more:
"if i die is the first and only facebook application that enables you to create a video or a text message that will only be published after you die"

Archiving social networking sites
Archive-it (http://www.archive-it.org/) is an interesting archiving service by the Internet Archives, which is "able to capture most publicly available web pages, including social networking sites" (https://webarchive.jira.com/wiki/display/ARIH/Archiving+Social+Networking+Sites+with+Archive-It). However, I continue to wonder how robust this tool/service can be to assist individuals to collect and preserve their own, private digital content produced in the social networking sites.

MEM: Making Everlasting Memories
"Making Everlasting Memories® (MeM) helps families share and archive the stories of their lives. Whether documenting a child’s first steps or honoring the memory of a loved one passed, MeM publishes the memories, treasured photographs and loving thoughts that capture life’s most cherished moments."

The market around personal digital archives will become bigger and bigger soon, I will say. But it will be very interesting to see how and which direction it will grow.
(Thank Maggie, one of my UT iSchool colleagues, for sharing this site.)
